The Griswold Community School Board of Education met Monday, December 7, 2009. The purpose of meeting was to hold suspension and expulsion hearings. Board President Campbell called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Board members present were Perdue, Hansen, Moore, Parker, Amos and Baier. Also present were Principal Dunphy, Superintendent Kunze, Business Manager Fast, a parent and a student. The studentŐs parent completed a written request that this meeting be held in closed session.
A motion to approve the agenda was made by
Baier. Perdue seconded and the
motion carried unanimously. Student
#1 did not attend the hearing. Supt. Kunze recommended that Student #1
be expelled through June, 2010.
Additionally this student would be barred from all buildings and grounds
during this time with the exception of the District Central Office during
regular business hours.
A motion to go into closed session was made at 7:37
p.m. by Hansen per Iowa Code 21.5(e).
Perdue seconded and a roll call vote was taken: Campbell, yes; Perdue, yes; Hansen,
yes; Amos, yes; Parker, yes; Moore, yes; Baier, yes.
A motion to return to open session was made at 8:10
p.m. by Parker. Perdue seconded
and a roll call vote was taken: Baier,
yes; Moore, yes; Parker, yes; Perdue, yes; Amos, yes; Hansen, yes; Campbell,
yes.
After some discussion of student #1, Amos made a
motion to take Supt. KunzeŐs recommendation and expel the student with the
terms listed above in KunzeŐs recommendation. Additionally the board added the stipulation that student #1
successfully complete a substance abuse program (at the studentŐs expense) and
that the student appear before the board to get approval before re-entering our
school. Hansen seconded and a roll call vote was taken: Campbell, yes; Hansen,
yes; Perdue, yes; Amos, yes; Parker, yes; Baier, yes; Moore, no. The motion carried.
Amos made the same motion, as listed above, to expel
student #2. Perdue seconded and a
roll call vote was taken: Baier, yes; Moore, yes; Parker, yes; Amos, yes;
Perdue, yes; Hansen, yes; Campbell, yes. The motion carried unanimously.
Student #3 did not attend the hearing. After some discussion regarding student
#3, Amos made the following motion:
That student #3 be expelled through June, 2010. This student would be barred from all
buildings and grounds during this time with the exception of the District
Central Office during regular business hours. Addition-ally, the board added

instruction as required by law.
Parker seconded and a roll call vote was taken: Campbell, yes; Hansen,
yes; Perdue, yes; Amos, yes; Parker, yes; Baier, yes; Moore, yes. The motion carried unanimously.
A motion to adjourn was made by Baier at 8:40
p.m. Perdue seconded and the
motion carried unanimously.
