Standard One:  Understand and apply different media, techniques, and processes to communicate in the visual arts

Benchmark:  Apply media techniques and processes with sufficient skill, confidence, and sensitivity that their intentions are carried out in their works

a.       TLW create a scratchboard, an ink drawing and a drawing using livestock markers

Standard Two:  Apply knowledge of the organizational components of visual art and the elements and principles of design to artwork

Benchmark:  Create artwork using elements and principles of design to solve specific visual problems

a.       TLW create a 3-D project using the principles of design

Standard Three:  Choose and evaluate a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas

Benchmark:  Apply subject, symbols, and ideas in their artwork and use the skills gained to solve problems

a.       TLW create a work using the stippling technique in ink

b.      TLW create an ink drawing on 3 layers of acetate

Standard Four:  Understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures and the roles of art for self and society

Benchmark:  Analyze works of art in terms of history, aesthetics and culture and differentiate, historically and culturally, the characteristics and purposes of art

a.        TLW identify works of art as to the artist and the stylistic period in which it was created

Standard Five:  Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and works of others

Benchmark:  Describe the meaning of artwork by analyzing how specific works are created and how they relate to historical and cultural contents

a.        TLW explain the process and techniques of oil and/or acrylic paint

Standard Six:  Make connections between visual arts and other disciplines

Benchmark:  Compare the characteristics of visual arts with ideas, issues, or themes in the humanities or sciences

a.       TLW generalize the influences of social, political and scientific ideas on art and the reverse influences of art on the times
