Standard 1 - Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in the family and consumer sciences pathway

            Benchmark:  Determine specific career concerns of special needs populations

a.       TLW identify the needs and concerns of populations with special needs

b.      TLW locate/utilize resources for populations with special needs

Standard 2 - Integrate multiple life roles and responsibilities with family, career and community environments

            Benchmark:  Describe life roles and responsibilities as they pertain to careers    

a.       TLW identify sex-role stereotyping and means of dealing with them

b.      TLW develop short and long-term planning, goal-setting and decision-making skills

Standard 3  - Demonstrate effective communication skills resulting in respectful and caring relationships in the family, the workplace, and the community

            Benchmark:  Identify personal skills necessary for effective communication

a.       TLW analyze strategies for developing a positive self-concept

b.      TLW demonstrate alternative ways of effective communication

c.       TLW describe ways to build good interpersonal skills

d.      TLW identify the ways to balance work, family and individual needs

Standard 4  - Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices for consumer management related to the human, economic, and environmental resources

            Benchmark:  Identify consumer management factors regarding to human resource          

a.  TLW locate and/or utilize child development resources for assistance

Benchmark:  Identify consumer management factors regarding to economic resources

a.       TLW apply the principles of management in the home, i.e.: prioritizing, planning, delegation, evaluation, time allocation, etc.

Benchmark:  Identify consumer management factors regarding environmental resources

a.  TLW demonstrate safety, sanitation, security and first aid procedures

b.  TLW use equipment and supplies with proper procedures

Standard 5  - Evaluate the impact of parenting roles and responsibilities on strengthening individuals and families

            Benchmark:  Identify factors that influence family and family life 

a.       TLW identify various family patterns and lifestyles

c.       TLW discuss health concerns and needs at various stages of prenatal and postnatal development

            Benchmark:  Describe developmental aspects of growth

a.       TLW describe ways to guide the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children, including those with special needs

b.      TLW identify ways to deal with peer pressure

            Benchmark:  Identify pertinent information needed for childcare providers

a.       TLW recognize the relationship between appearance and self-concept

b.      TLW select toys, equipment, food and materials appropriate for the developmental stage of a child

c.       TLW select and use appropriate child guidance techniques

d.      TLW identify types of child abuse, neglect and intervention options

e.       TLW discuss childhood diseases and immunization procedures

f.        TLW examine child development related occupations

g.       TLW identify ways to provide a safe environment for a child

Standard 7  - Analyze healthy life-style choices that enhance individual and family well-being

            Benchmark:  Describe factors that impact a healthy lifestyle       

a.       TLW analyze nutritional needs and select foods for good health throughout life

b.      TLW describe procedures for prevention and control of diseases, i.e.: sexually transmitted diseases and acquired immune deficiency

c.       TLW identify risks of sexual activity
