Standard 1 - Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in the family and consumer sciences pathway

            Benchmark:  Address the aspects of the special needs population

a.       TLW identify the needs and concerns of populations with special needs

b.      TLW locate and utilize resources for populations with special needs

Standard 2 - Integrate multiple life roles and responsibilities with family, career and community environments

Benchmark:   Identify different life roles and responsibilities and their impact on people

a.       TLW examine family/individual health related occupations

b.   TLW locate and/or utilize family/individual health resources

c.   TLW identify sex-role stereotyping and means of dealing with them

d.   TLW develop short and long-term planning, goal-setting and decision-making skills

Standard 3  - Demonstrate effective communication skills resulting in respectful and caring relationships in the family, the workplace, and the community

            Benchmark:  Describe the role of communication in various aspects of life

a.       TLW analyze strategies for developing a positive self-concept

b.      TLW demonstrate alternative ways of effective communications

c.       TLW describe ways to build good interpersonal skills

Benchmark:  Develop skills to maintain a positive lifestyle

a.       TLW identify the ways to balance work, family and individual needs

Standard 4  - Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices for consumer management related to the human, economic, and environmental resources

            Benchmark:  Describe the impact that financial situations have on lives

a.       TLW explain basic financial and legal aspects of housing in various demographic situations

b.      TLW identify procedures in planning for expenses, saving, and managing finances

c.       TLW determine the decision-making process for expenses, savings, and managing finances (i.e.: insurance, retirement)

d.      TLW locate and/or utilize child development resources for assistance

Standard 5  - Evaluate the impact of parenting roles and responsibilities on strengthening individuals and families

            Benchmark:  Understand the role of parenting on child development

a.       Identify various family patterns and lifestyles

b.      Describe ways to strengthen family relationships

c.       Describe the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development that occurs during childhood through adulthood, including individuals with special needs

d.      Examine family living/parenthood related occupations

e.       Locate and/or utilize family living and parenthood resources

f.        Examine parenting responsibilities

g.       Describe sexual reproduction and the birthing process

h.       Analyze contraception and family planning methods

i.         Discuss health concerns and needs at various stages of prenatal and postnatal development

j.        Identify the additional risks of teen pregnancy and parenting
