Standard 2 - Integrate multiple life roles and responsibilities with family, career and community environments

            Benchmark:  Describe life roles and responsibilities as they pertain to careers         

a.       TLW examine food related occupations

b.      TLW develop short and long-term planning, goal-setting and decision-making skills

Standard 3 - Demonstrate effective communication skills resulting in respectful and caring relationships in the family, the workplace, and the community

Benchmark:  Identify personal skills necessary for effective communication

a.  TLW develop problem-solving techniques

Standard 4 - Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices for consumer management related to the human, economic, and environmental resources

Benchmark:  Identify consumer management factors regarding to human resources           

a.  TLW locate and/or utilize child development resources for assistance

Benchmark:  Identify consumer management factors regarding economic resources

a.       TLW identify qualities of home furnishings and appliances, i.e.: performance, safety, cost, quality, efficiency, space and cleanability

b.      TLW demonstrate safety, sanitation, security and first aid procedures

c.       TLW use equipment and supplies with proper procedures

d.      TLW apply the principles of management in the home, i.e.: prioritizing, planning, delegation, evaluation, time allocation, etc.

e.       TLW locate and/or utilize food and nutrition resources

f.       TLW identify consumer rights and responsibilities, i.e.: preservation of natural resources and effective complaint procedures

g.      TLW evaluate advertising, warranties, written contracts and quality of goods and equipment, i.e.: consumer fraud schemes

Benchmark:  Describe nutritional factors that contribute to healthy life-style choices

a.       TLW analyze nutritional needs and select foods for good health throughout life

b.      TLW prepare foods from the basic food groups

c.       TLW plan menus, prepare shopping lists and purchase food

d.      TLW plan, prepare, serve and evaluate a meal

e.       TLW utilize basic kitchen skills in food preparation and storage

f.       TLW apply the principles of sanitation, recycling and safety when working with food and equipment

g.      TLW analyze fad diets and eating disorders

h.      TLW identify various cultural and regional cuisines

i.        TLW evaluate consumer health options

Benchmark:  Describe other factors that impact a healthy lifestyle

a.         TLW explain the basic skills necessary to maintain personal, physical and mental health, i.e.: alternative strategies in dealing with stress

b.        TLW identify personal safety and survival skills

c.         TLW identify substance abuse, use and non-use
