Language:

Science/Health:

            Standard 1:  Inquiry

                        Benchmark:  Demonstrate the abilities necessary for scientific inquiry

  • Ask questions about objects, organisms, and events in the environment.

  • Plan and conduct simple investigations.

  • Use tools to gather data and extend the senses.

  • Use mathematics in scientific inquiry.

  • Use data to construct reasonable explanations.

  • Communicate investigations and explanations.

  • Follow appropriate safety procedures when conducting investigations.

            Standard 2:  Physical Science

                        Benchmark:  Understand and apply knowledge of the positions and motions of objects

·         The position of an object can be described by locating it relative to its background.

·         An object’s motion can be described by observing and measuring its position over time.

·         An object’s position or movement can be changed by pushing or pulling.

Standard 3: Life Science

Benchmark:  Understand and apply knowledge of basic human body structures (human body parts and their functions).

·         Humans have distinct body structures for functions including but not limited to thinking, walking, holding, seeing and talking.

·         Benchmark:  Understand and apply knowledge of good health habits (See Standard 6)

Standard 4: Earth/space Science

Benchmark:  Understand and apply knowledge of observable information about daily and seasonal weather conditions

·         Weather changes from day to day and over the seasons.

·         The sun provides the light and heat necessary to maintain the temperature of the earth.

Standard 6:  Social and Personal Perspective

Benchmark:  Apply and understand good health habits, i.e. hand washing, dressing appropriately, eating healthy

Benchmark:  Apply and understand safety rules, i.e. stranger danger, bus and school safety


 

Social Studies:

Standard 2:  History

                   Benchmark:  Understand how communities have developed

a.       TLW name the major holidays and their traditions

Standard 3:  Political Science and Citizenship

          Benchmark:  Develop civic responsibility

a.  TLW identify community helpers

b.  TLW recognize the importance of getting along with family and friends

 

Art:

Standard 1:  Understand and apply different media, techniques, and processes to communicate in the visual arts

Benchmark:  Describe and use different fine arts media, techniques and processes to communicate in a safe and responsible manner

a.       TLW will demonstrate their ability to follow directions and visual steps, i.e.: cut, glue

b.      TLW use art materials in a safe and responsible manner, such as carrying scissors

Standard 2:  Apply knowledge of the organizational components of visual art and the elements and principles of design to artwork

Benchmark:  Understand, describe and begin to use the visual and expressive characteristics of the organizational components of visual arts to communicate ideas: i.e. line, shape, color, texture, patterns, repetitions, balance, emphasis, contrast and unity

a.       TLW use the elements of art (line and shape) in their own artwork

 

Music:

Standard 1:  Sing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music

            Benchmark:  Discriminate between pitch and volume

a.       TLW move his/her voice to show high and low

Benchmark:  Demonstrate an understanding of singing on pitch

Physical Education:

c.       TLW demonstrate fast walking/jogging/running during their 5 minute warm-up

Benchmark:  Understand the components of wellness

a.       TLW identify many sports as lifetime activities

b.      TLW identify the correct techniques in the proper care of their bodies

c.       TLW exercise moderately and strenuously while socializing with classmates

Benchmark:  Understand the components of individual and team concepts

a.       TLW identify the basic rules and terminology of each unit

b.      TLW demonstrate the skills learned for each particular unit
