Photography I

Standard One:  Understand and apply different media, techniques, and processes to communicate in the visual arts

Benchmark:  Students understand the technical capabilities of a 35 mm camera in order to produce negatives of correct exposure.

a.       TLW select the best negative to produce sharp, good quality finished prints.

Standard Two:  Apply knowledge of the organizational components of visual art and the elements and principles of design to artwork

Benchmark:  Students select, use and combine artistic elements, principles, technical skills, to produce photographs.

a.       TLW refine photographic skills and develop self-discipline through practice of photographic practice of photographic skills

Standard Three:  Choose and evaluate a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas

Benchmark:  Apply subject, symbols, and ideas in their artwork and use the skills gained to solve problems

a.       TLW review and analyze each other’s photographs to determine what is good and what can be done to improve them.

Standard Four:  Understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures and the roles of art for self and society

Benchmark:  Analyze works of art in terms of history, aesthetics and culture and differentiate, historically and culturally, the characteristics and purposes of art

a.        TLW identify works of art as to the artist and the stylistic period in which it was created

Standard Five:  Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and works of others

Benchmark:  Students will select and analyze negatives for which to make photographs.

a.        TLW orally critique each other’s photographs based on the assignment rubrics

Standard Six:  Make connections between visual arts and other disciplines

Benchmark:  Students demonstrate appropriate behavior for the context and style (e.g. photojournalism, art, advertising, etc.) of photographs presented

a.       TLW identify skills used in vocational, cultural and recreational opportunities in photography
