Class Novel: Because of Winn-Dixie

We will start the year by reading Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo as a class. This awesome book is about a young girl, Opal, who befriends a stray dog which she names Winn-Dixie and makes it part of her family.

Guided Reading Groups

We will be doing guided reading throughout the year. Each guided reading book is carefully selected to go along with thematic units within our classroom. For example, each group will read a biography before we write our own autobiographies. During our civil rights unit, students will learn more about civil rights in other countries.

                                                                  


Independent Reading

Students must read one book in each of the following areas and complete a project for each book by the end of 1st Quarter (October 25th)

Reading Centers

Each reading group recently completed a biography. We are now starting to write our own autobiographies during reading centers. Be prepared to share stories with us about growing when we were little! We can't wait to hear all about ourselves.
