Dear Parents,
Each year our fifth grade students are given the opportunity
to join beginning band. This year's band is about to begin. We have
spent most of the first quarter preparing for this opportunity. The
students have completed a web search on the instruments and a study on the
families and characteristics of each instrument. Each student has been
given the Selmer Music Aptitude Survey. In addition, each student has had
the opportunity to try the beginning band instruments. We have talked at
length about the commitment it takes to be in band. I feel the students
are in a good position to make a decision about joining band.
Many things can be gained from participating in band.
Of course, my first goal is to teach each student to play an instrument.
They also learn responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance by being in band.
Playing an instrument is a life-long skill and one that can be enjoyed at any
age.
This year's beginner meeting has been scheduled for * in the High School Commons area. We will have
representatives from Reiman Music in Creston present to explain their
rental/purchase plans. I will be available to answer any questions you
have about our program. I hope you will join us * for this exciting opportunity.
Sincerely,
Sandy England
