English 8

English 8 focuses on the aspects of written and verbal communication. Students study skills essential for creating fluent and organized writing: punctuation, grammar, capitalization, usage, and vocabulary. The steps of the writing process are practiced as students draft paragraphs and essays. Students also research using electronic sources. In addition to written communication, students practice effective public speaking skills and present several formal speeches. The English 8 portfolio emphasizes career exploration in conjunction with the Choices program studied in the Careers Exploratory classes. Employability skills and responsibility are also important components of the course.
