Standard 1:  Reading Process          

Benchmark:  Demonstrate phonics.

Benchmark:  Select words that are appropriate to audience and purpose

a.       TLW compose a friendly letter using the 5 letter parts

Benchmark:  Correctly apply the rules of mechanics and grammar

a.       TLW write a statement, question, exclamation, and command sentence

b.      TLW correctly use pronouns in their writing

c.       TLW use plurals and plural possessives in their writing

e.       TLW spell 80% of words correctly in spontaneous writing

Benchmark:  Explain investigations in science involving asking questions, finding answers, and comparing the unknown to the known

a.       TLW demonstrate the abilities necessary for scientific inquiry

Standard 2:  Physical Science

a.  TLW understand and apply knowledge of how to describe and identify substances based on characteristic properties

b.  TLW understand and apply knowledge of states of matter and changes in states of matter

c.  TLW understand and apply knowledge of the concept of conservation of mass/matter

a.       TLW understand and apply knowledge of organisms and their environments, including the relationships among living and non-living factors in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems

Art

b.      TLW produce a picture depicting a certain mood or feeling

Standard Four:  Understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures and the roles of art for self and society

Benchmark:  Know, identify and demonstrate how the visual arts made historical significance to self and society

a.       TLW identify, describe and interpret art styles of various cultures, such as realism (Grant Wood) and abstract (Picasso)

b.      TLW recognize that each art style has its own aesthetic values
