Weather Policies

The district prioritizes student safety above all else. School district buses will not operate when weather conditions due to fog, rain, snow or other natural elements make it unsafe to do so. Because weather conditions may vary around the school district and may change quickly, the best judgment possible will be used with the information available.
The final judgment as to when conditions are unsafe to operate will be made by the superintendent.

Staff and students will be notified by commercial radio when school is cancelled or temporarily delayed.

When weather conditions deteriorate during the day after school has begun, cancellation notices will be announced by commercial radio and by other electronic means.  Students will be returned to their regular drop-off sites unless weather conditions prevent it.  In that case, students will be kept at or returned to school until they are picked up by the parents.

When school is closed or temporarily delayed because of weather, practices and/or events may still be held if conditions have improved and travel is deemed safe. The final decision to hold these activities or events will be made by the superintendent and/or his/her designee. Priority will be given to events that are scheduled outside of the control of the district and may not be rescheduled at a later date. If practices are held on days which school has been closed because of weather, it is the responsibility of the coach to inform participants that it is non-mandatory and no punishment (such as lost playing time) will result as a consequence for not attending. The decision to attend or not attend shall be at the parents’ and/or student’s discretion.
