Read Across America Week

We are excited to celebrate Read Across America Week at Griswold Elementary from March 2–March 6! We have a full week of fun activities planned to celebrate reading and encourage a lifelong love of books.

Some of the activities require help from home. Here’s what students can look forward to and what items need to be brought from home:

Monday – Guest Read-Aloud
Cass Health providers will be visiting our classrooms to share a story with students.

Tuesday – Flashlight Reading
Students will pick a fun spot outside of their classroom and read with flashlights! Please send a flashlight to school with your child.

Wednesday – Read Something Other Than a Book (No Electronics)
Students are encouraged to read something unique such as a magazine, cookbook, instructions, menu, song lyrics, weather report, Farmers’ Almanac, or something similar — just no electronics for this day. Please send reading material to school with your child.

Thursday – Buddy Reading
Students will partner up with other elementary grades and enjoy reading time together.

Friday – Read & Feed
Wear your pajamas and bring a snack from home as we enjoy reading in a cozy setting.

Extra Fun Challenge! If your child reads 20 minutes at home, please sign one of the reading logs. Students may turn in up to 4 sheets. If we collect 400 sheets by Friday, March 6, Mr. Horton will eat breakfast on the school roof! Reading log sheets were sent home; more are available in the office if needed, or you may print at home using the attached PDF.

Thanks for your support to make this a fantastic week of reading!

Together, we can promote literacy, inspire a love of reading, and encourage strong reading habits in our students.
