Griswold Track & Field Headed to State — A Season to Remember
The Griswold Track & Field team is shaping up to have a season for the record books.
With state qualifier meets behind them, our Tigers now know who will be representing Griswold at the 2026 Iowa State Track & Field Championships later this week—and there is plenty to celebrate.
From school records to repeat state qualifiers to relay teams peaking at just the right time, this group has shown incredible determination, discipline, and Tiger pride all season long.
A Record-Breaking Season for Griswold Track & Field
The Griswold Track & Field team is making history this spring—and not just by sending an impressive group of athletes to the state meet.
In the span of just one week, two Griswold school records were broken, adding even more excitement to what is already shaping up to be a season to remember.
Ella Gade Breaks 53-Year-Old Discus Record
On Thursday, May 7, at the Southwest Valley Track Meet, Ella Gade broke one of Griswold’s longest-standing school records in dramatic fashion.
Ella launched the discus 122’5”, surpassing the previous school record of 116’4”, set by Hano Keiser in 1973—a mark that had stood for 53 years.
Competing against a field of 21 athletes, Ella not only broke the record, but dominated the competition, finishing nearly seven feet ahead of second place.
Assistant Track Coach Wilson, who works closely with Griswold’s field events athletes, praised Ella’s commitment and work ethic.
“I can coach all day, but ultimately it is up to them to put in the work. Ella has put in the work, both in the offseason and during the season. She more than deserves to hold this title.”
Ella will now head to the Iowa State Track & Field Championships, where she will represent Griswold in the discus.
Carsyn Adams Breaks School Record in 100M Hurdles
Momentum continued at the state qualifying meet on May 14, when Carsyn Adams etched her own name into Griswold history.
Carsyn broke the school record in the 100M hurdles, running a 15.22 and surpassing the previous mark of 15.82, held by B. Freund since 2009.
“I’ve had the time to beat in the back of my head all season,” Carsyn said. “At my last meet before qualifiers, I was really close, so I knew I could beat it during the state qualifier meet. It was so fun to not only beat it, but to have my teammates there cheering me on.”
Coach Rachel Larsen shared how rewarding it has been to watch Carsyn’s growth.
“She’s been putting in so much effort during the offseason—work people don’t often see—and to see it pay off is amazing.”
Carsyn enters the state meet ranked #2 in Iowa in the 100M hurdles.
