BOE Award: October 2026

For the month of October, the Griswold School Board recognized two individuals, one of whom was Brenda Houser, for her willingness to support students and fellow staff members. Her dedication and care have made a lasting impact across the Griswold Community District.

Brenda finds one of the most rewarding parts of working in education is seeing students grow, especially as she watches her middle school students develop from young sixth graders into students ready to take on high school.

Another meaningful part of Brenda’s work is building a classroom environment where students feel comfortable and excited to learn, even when math isn't their favorite subject. She finds it especially rewarding when students reach a point where they look forward to coming to her class each day.

Brenda holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a field endorsement in mathematics, as well as a master’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics.

Outside of school, Brenda enjoys spending time with her husband, Aaron, and their three children, Russel, Adam, and Amanda, all of whom are Griswold graduates. After spending the last 26 years chasing the kids around in sports and other activities, she has been enjoying spending more time outdoors on the farm with her family.

When asked what advice she would share with others working in education, Brenda emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and remembering why you chose this profession in the first place.

“This is a hard job, but you have to come into school every day with the right attitude and remember why you went into education in the first place.”

Thank you, Brenda, for your dedication to our students, your support of fellow staff members, and the lasting difference you make throughout the Griswold Community Schools!
