The Griswold Community School Board of Education feels it is important to recognize students, staff, and community members for their achievements. The recipients of these awards will be archived here. If you have someone you feel should be recognized, please complete the nomination form below.
2026 Recipients
February 2026 - Charity Mundorf for her dedication and adaptability in overseeing the concession stand operations. Her ability to navigate last-minute scheduling with a positive attitude is commendable. Jacob Olson for his exceptional service to improve our school’s cleanliness. From regular maintenance to lunchtime supervision, he does it all with a smile and a can-do attitude which make him an indispensable part of our team.
January 2026 - Dayna Potter, preschool paraprofessional, for her dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to student success. From maintaining classroom routines to lending a hand wherever it is needed, her "can-do" attitude and genuine passion for our students have already made a lasting impact.
2025 Recipients
December 2025 - Custodian Katarina Labenz for her dedication to our school in her position as custodian. Her presence, approachability, and tireless work ethic to create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for staff and students make our school a better place.
November 2025 - Jackie Brokaw, Denise Mardesen, Haley Schmidt and Karla Wilson for their hard work in planning a successful and inclusive Veterans Day Program.
October 2025 - Brian Cook for being an overall champion of our school community, especially for his work on various projects for the school including the football play clocks, the rolling flag for the HS gym, creation of a youth football program, and service on the chain gang. Tammy Euans for her perseverance and patience in providing assistance to students.
September 2025 - Student Bella Sorensen for demonstrating perseverance and dedication to stick with MS Cheerleading while her other teammates quit. Her courage and unwavering spirit have made her a powerful role model for her peers and school community.
May 2025 - Rich Mortensen for his contributions to running efficient track meets through announcing that is informative yet inspirational.
April 2025 - Students Easton Orstad and Eastyn Kirchhoff for volunteering to assist with raking 6 tons of sand at the long jump, the Jazz Band for qualifying for State, Nollan Smith for earning his Iowa FFA degree, and Conner Bowers and Peyton Cook for their qualification for the Drake Relays.
March 2025 - Students Brenna Tye, Lexi Dofner, Ryleigh Harrison and Tanner Scholl were recognized for their participation in SWIHMB at the Reliquest Bowl. Students BrookLynne Peterson, Karly Byers, and Ryleigh Harrison for earning gold in their respective events at FFA Districts. Teacher Katie Johnson for high achievement in her first year of teaching and providing new opportunities for students. Teacher Haley Schmidt for consistently delivering high-quality Elementary Musical Programs.
February 2025 - MS/HS Custodian Doug Foster for consistently performing his custodial duties with positivity and pride for the district.
January 2025 - Teacher Sandy Nelson for her unwavering commitment to the staff and students of Griswold schools, most recently demonstrated by her flexibility in filling teacher vacancies.

2024 Recipients
December 2024 - Student Peyton Cook for his exceptional leadership qualities demonstrated through positive peer influence and his interactions with youth, including his dedication to volunteer with the junior high basketball program. Student Amanda Houser for breaking the girls basketball school record for most points scored in a single game.
November 2024 - Student Holden Jensen for his achievements and hard work to qualify for State Cross Country and the 2024-25 E-Sports Team for placing 2nd in the 1A division at the State tournament.
September 2024 - Teacher Carrie Harrison for her commitment to Griswold students and ability to collaborate with staff to help students find individual success and overcome adversity.
August 2024 - Griswold Sports Boosters for their continued support of GCSD Athletics and successful management of the concession stand.
July 2024 - Softball Coaches Jody Rossell and Marlia Mundorf and members of the 2023-24 softball team for their 26-5 record and advancing to the regional finals.
May 2024 - Teacher Kara Victor : for representing the District well by being nominated for the Outstanding New Business Educator of the Year for the Iowa Business Education Association. And to Student Blake Foster : for winning the Judge's Award for the Third District in the Congressional Art Competition.
April 2024 - Teacher and Band instructor Denise Mardesen : for leading the Jazz Band and helping them place third at State Competition.
March 2024 - Teacher Jackie Brokaw : for her initiative in developing and organizing the Souper Showcase event that highlighted the District’s extracurricular programs.
February 2024 - Student Grant Rogers : for his participation in the fine arts programs and for being selected as an outstanding soloist at the Morningside College Jazz Festival along with the pianist for SWIBA Honor Jazz Band. Students Grant Adams, Brie Ross, Madeline Tischer, and Dane Carey : for their Group Improv speech performance and qualification for All-State Speech.
January 2024 - Lisa Masker : for her dedication to the District and work as a custodian.
2023 Recipients
December 2023 - Joy Smith : for her being selected for the Joslyn Art Museum Ken Bellows Mentoring Program, having artwork in the "Word on the Street" Young Artist Exhibition, and for bring a published Illustrator in a children's book.
November 2023 - Cody Dorscher : for his achievements and hard work to qualify for State Cross Country.
October 2023 - Technology Director Eric Baker : for going above and beyond job duties and initiating necessary improvements to the district's technology needs. Transportation Director Jeb Peck : for overall management of the transportation department and maintaining a compliant fleet.
September 2023 - MS/HS Paraprofessional Charlotte Evans : for constantly supporting students with medical needs and being an advocate for their success. Custodial Staff (Kevin Farr, Scott Franks, Doug Foster, Lisa Masker, Scott Robinson) for improving the building's overall appearance and maintaining cleanliness.
August 2023 - Teacher Peggy Hansen : for her dedication to education and representing the District well by being named the Iowa Masonic Teacher of the Year.
July 2023 - Teacher Nancie Platt : for her positivity in the classroom and work as a Driver's Education Instructor
June 2023 - Students Peyton Cook and Kamron Brownlee : for their achievements and hard work to qualify for State Golf
May 2023 - Bus Driver Arlene Petty : for going above and beyond in her duties as a bus driver
April 2023 - Staff members Monica Brandt, Nancie Platt, Savanna Mixan, Gina Kroon, and Sandy Nelson : for organizing the Careers, Coffees, and Conversations student event
March 2023 - Student Madeline Tischer : for being a role model to younger students and peers along with her positivity and service attitude.
